WHAT IS A WHITE CARD?
The construction industry in South Australia requires workers to hold a construction induction card, often referred to as a 'White Card'. You must keep this card on you at all times when working on a construction site.
A construction induction card remains valid as long as you keep up your competencies; meaning, you have worked in the construction industry within the last 2 years.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A WHITE CARD
In order to obtain a white card, you need to successfully complete the general induction training course (Course Reference: CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry).
This course provides basic knowledge of:
- construction work
- work health and safety laws
- common site hazards and
- how to control the associated risks.

PROOF OF TRAINING
Whenever you are on a construction site, you must keep your physical white card available for inspection.
If you are waiting on the issue of your white card, you must be able to show your general induction training certificate as proof of your training until your card is issued.
If your card has been lost, stolen or destroyed, you must apply for a replacement as soon as practicable by contacting your training provider and be able to show evidence that you are waiting on your replacement card if you are required to present it for inspection.
If you no longer hold a white card - or have not maintained your competencies - you will need to attend the induction training course again.
EXPIRATION
Your white card does not expire as long as you keep up your competencies.
If you have not worked in the construction industry in the past 2 years, your white card is not considered to be valid, and you will need to re-train.
All cards issued after 01 JUL 2011 have photographic ID. Cards issued before that date without photo ID remain valid.
